Watercolor Series: 1 of 12 (January)

One of my goals this year is to paint at least one watercolor every month. Over the holiday break I did a few practice watercolors following lessons in a book on watercolor painting. I was going to do one that had a winter theme but in response to the record high today1 in the Detroit area, I’m going with one that is more summer like. Click here for a bigger view. One down, 11 more to go.

This week is the true start of the semester. Wednesday is the first class of “Fundamentals of Human Behavior” (SI 688) and the only one of the semester where we don’t have any assigned reading. After this week there will be about 50 pages (3 articles) to read per week. That’s a fair bit. I have some reading to do for “Evaluation of Information Systems and Services” (SI 622) on Friday and will be working on that during the week. And in other news, the professor has established the semester groups. I’m in a group with people that I haven’t officially met before. Promises to be another good learning experience.

Not much to say about work really. There are things I really love and things that make me want to stab myself in the eye2. There isn’t much I can do at this point but let things develop as they will. I continue to work on finding that line between assertion, attention, influence, and indifference. Its there somewhere.

Image: I’ve decided to teach myself how to paint watercolors this year and will be picking one each month to share. This is one of my better exercises. I had to copy a sketch and follow suggestions on what colors to use and where to put frisket, that sort of thing, but it turned out halfway decent I thought.

  1. A record high temperature of 64 degrees was set for Detroit at Detroit Metro Airport. This breaks the old record of 57 set in 1989. []
  2. For the record: this is an exaggeration. I’m not interested in causing harm to anyone, including myself. []
