Time to load up

This morning I’ll be loading up the Jeep with what seems a ridiculous amount of stuff to take to Mill Creek Campground in Mackinaw City. Yes, we’re finally going on our summer vacation.

It’s the third (maybe fourth?) time in a row we’ve gone to this campground to party with family and friends. W. used to camp there with her Grandpa when she was knee high to a cricket.

Yesterday I gave the Jeep a thorough cleaning and prepared it as lovingly as possible to be my mule for the weekend. Every year we think we can get by with less stuff but that never seems to happen. But we’re getting good at packing (thanks to W. and her detailed ‘camping list’).

So with our cameras, phones, blow-up rafts, swim suits, Jiffy Pop, and numerous other goodies…we load up and head out. Until later…

Hooray for camping lists! My mom had a 2 page camping list she would get out every time we were getting ready for a camp trip growing up. I suppose when you’re toting 5 kids, the supply list can be complicated.

Last time we went camping I thought about making our own family camp list. But then I remembered that our camping equipment includes 1 tent, 1 sleeping bag, 1 flashlight. So, not much to think about there.

Aha…the camping list! My mother did the same, plus she had a chuck wagon box that Dad built (and which is still at their house in Alabama) in the 50′s which held all the staples like tinfoil, matches, salt and pepper, paper towels, etc. Even when we moved on from the tent to a camper there was still the camping list. My personal camping list includes 1 tent, 1 flashlight, one blow up mattress (blown up), some blankets, two pillows (one for me and one for Katie) and one sheltie. It’s always good to remember to bring the sheltie.
