Independence Day

July 4th, 2009 7:15 am —  15 views

Today is the Fourth of July, a day commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. It was 233 years ago our fore fathers signed this declaration stating our independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. History suggests they had their reasons.

Today is another day. A Saturday actually. In a moment I’m going to grab a bite to eat then drive over to the high school tennis courts to play some tennis with W.

On my desk are notes for some design work I’m doing, in my head are the swirling interests of domesticacia, in my future are courses, studying, working, and if plan and nature are sufficiently aligned, my own sort of independence some day.

An amusing perspective on the 4th by Russell Brand’s via Twitter the other day:

I am opposed to Independence Day.As an Englishman I think America ought accept that they made an awful mistake and apologise to Her Majesty.”

It’s an interesting perspective that could easily send me down this boring path where I get all philosophical about how technology and independence mean something in these globally aware times…but not today.
