Happy Birthday Ron

Tomorrow1 is my oldest brother’s birthday. Unfortunately we don’t talk much and this is a real shame2. From what I can tell, he’s doing alright for himself in Arizona. It is my hope that someday, lounging at night under the desert stars, we can talk about our youth and compare memories. The beer is on me. I’ll even bring a Michigan specialty, “Two Hearted Ale”, from Bell’s Brewery in Comstac, MI.
Estranged families are all too common these days. And to be honest, it’s hard to say there is anything wrong with this. If people don’t get along why force it? Just because you share patterns of DNA with someone doesn’t mean you have to be friends and talk about your favorite books and such. Admittedly, there is something that doesn’t feel right about that.
The Waltzing Bear, a coworker of mine, lives near his parents and his siblings. They are all within walking distance…or maybe a boat ride. This is so foreign to me. But really, I’m jealous. To live so close to someone you can fart around, drink beer with, and complain about stuff with. That’s something remarkable I think.
Enough about that. I couldn’t find your email Address Ron, but I’m thinking about you anyway. Maybe the Old Dog or TWC will pass along my best wishes. Maybe someday you’ll invite me and W. to go out to the desert with you and we can drink some Two Hearted Ale and reflect on how we got to that very moment. Even if that doesn’t happen, know that I want it to.
So back to school related stuff, not that it is as exciting as painful family shix. I met with both of my groups tonight at the same time. We met at a computer center in the Shapiro library on central campus. I had told one group that I couldn’t meet with them but found a few minutes to touch base and discuss our general approach for an assignment due tomorrow. Thankfully the Beach is sunny and is stepping up. Hopefully y’all think I did my part. Or at least enough of it to allow you to springboard off it.
Work has been crazy, but that is always the case. Most everything else pales in comparison. We are approaching a release and this gets everybody all tensed up and worried. It will be fine, we know how to make it happen. There are new people on our team and their fresh perspective is…well…fresh. I look forward to learning from them and interpreting their impressions of what we do. Such promise. Such pain. Such it is.
Image: While searching online for information related to my brother, I came across the web site of his company and started poking around. I found this image and decided I’d use it as my blog image because he’s wearing a Michigan sweatshirt! I can’t tell if this is for the University of Michigan or not, but I was pleased to see him wearing it anyway. Ron, if we end up drinking in the desert together, I’ll bring you a new Michigan sweatshirt to add to your collection. I hope you don’t mind that I used this image in my blog. Don’t be a stranger.

- Ron, I’m totally willing to be involved. I’m a computer nerd and can help. Seriously. Your site has good stuff…but I can help if you give me a chance. [↩]
