Charlevoix was fun. The wedding was beautifully done, the reception at a great location, and all the people were fantastic.

Our drive was nice as we were able to enjoy the fall colors. We stopped at W.’s parents to visit. This little cat wanted to be friends but didn’t want to be touched. On the way out of their neighborhood we had to stop to capture this shot of the park where W. used to play as a little girl. From there we passed through Elk Rapids where we visited briefly with my brother, his boys, and their dog.

Back on the road, W. reviewed our path north. I managed to capture this shot of this tiny church north of Eastport. It’s very tiny. We arrived at our hotel, took a few pictures of our room and the harbor then crossed to street for a wonderful dinner with a little bit of live music. A couple drinks later, we headed off to the local bar with the rest of the wedding party. This may not have been a great idea. I had a few to many, but otherwise had a great time with the groom and his friends. The next day I was in a BAD way. Thankfully, W. was nice to me, even though we both knew my condition was my own fault. When I could stand, we walked around downtown a bit.

The bridge in Charlevoix raises and lowers to allow sailboats into the harbor, it’s pretty cool but annoying if your waiting to cross it. Got this picture at the wedding and this one of the bride and groom…freshly married. While they did pictures and stuff, W. and killed some time by going for a walk down the pier to Lake Michigan. Later at the reception, we had some dinner, hung out with old friends, and admired the history in and around Castle Farms in Charlevoix. Knowing I’d have a class work to do the next day (and being scared to drink because of the night before) W. and I were pretty much the only sober people at the reception. This was a good thing.

And that was our weekend in Charlevoix. Of course I had to leave a lot out, as I’m sure you can imagine. But I’m tired and am looking forward to sleeping in my own bed. I spent most of this afternoon (after the 4 hour drive home) working on a paper that is due Wednesday. Such is life. Work and play.

Image: This is a picture of a gorgeous sailboat passing outside our hotel room. I took this with a fancy zoom lens on a Canon Rebel XT. Kind of a big camera to lug around. It does take nice pictures and having a huge zoom lens to work with would be cool. Here is the full shot.
