What happened, it’s Friday already?

Here we are again. It’s Friday already. Summer is in our face, rushing past, breathing heavy.
Over the week I’ve been acclimating myself to Windows Vista on a fancy new computer where I work. Always fun to get a fresh machine. The double edge is having to configure the stuff to do your job. I suppose a good thing about it is having a chance to evaluate and improve things from the way they were. Directory structures, program locations, shortcuts, browser profiles etc. Nerdy stuff.
There were a bunch of other interesting things that happened this week…but most of them were at work and this isn’t a work blog. There is a line…
Last night was golf league night which is almost always fun. We golfed in the last group and I did poorly but had fun doing it. Got this cameo on the way, this shot while waiting on the second hole, this cameo with my golf partner, coworker, caddy, and moral advisor, Tubby the Waltzing Bear. This final self portrait while driving home.
W. is moving around upstairs and it’s time for me to head into work. She’s off today but I have lots to do. So many cool projects starting up…and with summer above the clouds and weekends planned out for weeks, it’s going to be fall before I know it classes will be starting again.
I took this picture last night as I was getting ready to leave the golf course. I had just come out of the clubhouse and was in the parking lot facing west. A little blurry but the colors are authentic nature.
Up before the birds

My basement office, if one could call it that, has a small window near the ceiling. There are a lot of birds that fly between houses and land on small trees in between and so pass this small window a lot. I was up extra early this morning for a work related virtual operation and at about 4:30ish I started hearing birds begin chirping as dawn rose eastward. Seemed strange being up before the birds were. I imagined birds propped up on branches, heads tucked in…while I’m tailing log files.
Funny thing…statistics for this blog are surprising. A blog of spewed thoughts; mostly meaningless, incomplete stream data.
Reading Wired magazine while eating lunch yesterday I read an article about a site called Twitter. I haven’t looked at it yet but the description was intriguing. As I understood it, this was an internet application with a web interface that allowed people to post and read single sentences or random thoughts from tons of people. Instant message blogging almost. Apparently when people do this in the collective, a hive mind of sorts begins to emerge.
Science fiction or evolutionary glimpses?
This picture was taken from the top of an extension ladder that was leaning against a pair of trees. Part of the BP preparation. Height: about 15 feet off the ground. We had just finished wrapping the trunks with this outdoor rope lighting. They looked cool at night.
The Brazilian Party (sans Brazilians)

This weekend went by in a flash. To help capture it I took a lot of pictures…
Some quick background: the original party plan included our friends from Brazil. A number of people have birthday’s around this weekend, one of them a Brazilian. Sadly they couldn’t make it. We charged forward anyway and partied Brazilian style … in her honor.
We picked up pre-ordered supplies at a local Brazilian store before we left town. Where we scored some party wear. We drove for hours and had dinner at the top of a ski resort. The next day we finished getting ready and people started arriving. The Good Doctor took the young folk for rides in the granny car.
The party got swinging proper and I took to capturing blog shots cameo style here, here, here, here again, here in an interesting combo shot, here (slightly drunken), here as foot, here mixing drinks, mostly steady, getting funky, here for dessert with homemade ice cream and coffee. The party wound down with a quick tour of the tree house with another here and here. Folks winding down. Clearing our heads on a tandem bike ride I got this last one.
While I was taken pictures, I got this one of W. and Dr. working, not working, and a mishap. Among a number of delicious grilled finger type foods were these prosciutto wrapped scallops, grilled here.
We had a great time and left the next morning. Today was a blur at work. I’m transitioning to a new work station running Vista. I’m keeping an open mind about it but the computer itself is a tough one. That’ll take a few days.
It’s kinda late…time to hit the sack. I’m guessing the Tiger’s lost…they weren’t doing well when I wandered in here. Next weekend promises to be a good one…a Black Crowes concert in the town where I grew up. At the very least it will be a walk down memory lane.
This is a picture of W. taking a picture of me taking her picture. I was demonstrating the features of this camera to someone and did a blur for this one. Ah…what a fittingly representational shot of this weekend. Good times.
Digital history and archiving

Since I haven’t been taking any interesting or ‘blog worthy’ pictures lately, I’ve been forced to scour my digital picture collection. The problem was they weren’t organized in any sensible way. This is something I’ve struggled with ever since I got my first digital camera in 2000.
So I spent a little time this morning sorting all my digital pictures into folders based on year. This didn’t take as long as I thought it would. However this process meant I was looking through a large number of pictures sets in a short time. Like a fast pass through the last seven years. I realized that I had a pretty good timeline going simply based on when pictures were taken. Events that I knew happened “awhile ago” now have more accurate dates. I took a lot of pictures in 2002.
After spending too much time sorting, I decided I had better select a picture and get on with my blog entry for the day so I could hit the shower and go to work.
This is a picture taken of the visitor center at the top of the Haleakala volcano on Maui where W. and went for our honeymoon in October of 2000. We drove up the volcano in our rented Mustang convertible. And let me tell you, talk about a winding road!
Being funny

Scanning through the pictures from the weekend I had a tough time picking one for today.
This picture is one of my self portraits taken during the drive north. I didn’t know what W. was doing until after I took the picture. She might be “displeased” to know that I posted this one but I’m going to count on the fact that she doesn’t read my blog. It made me laugh when I took it and brings a smile to my face whenever I look at it. The long drives can make us a little punchy.
I have a busy day ahead and not much time to write. It’s raining today…even had a little thunder. The plants and lawn are happy about it. This next weekend will see another trip north. This one for a “brazilian party” with a bunch of friends in Gaylord. That will be a good time.
